i am a member of our state mental health planning and advisory council. as part of my duties, i am amember of the Adult services workgroup. I am not sure what we do. So far two meetings have been scheduled, and I am the only one who showed up! The MPAAC is a stipulation of the SAMSHA bock grant. We have to have the council to get the money.Essentially, we shuffle paers and listen to ourselves talk. I have yet to see any significant change implemented by the council.

I have recently changed county mental health agencies. The "rule" in the state of Georgia is that the pdoc has 30 days to see you after your initial intake. I have an appointment in four months. This facility only has one part-time pdoc for a five-county area. This is the first time in my life that I have started writing letters to representatives.

It is said that people get the kind of government they deserve, and that pain is what motivates people to change. I am glad to see other people becoming activists. You go, nello!

Baco, The county clinic that I have been using for approximately 2 years has been awesome. They are even covering my medications until I can be seen by my new local facility. I believe the 'model' itself is a good one. The facility that is helping me out is amazed by the lack of help available for those up here - they stated that the State would be "all over them" if they let patients go 4 months without proper care - hell, without any care. Maybe the amount of funding per area depends on the local representatives? How does that work, do you know?

The squeaky wheel gets the grease! the general public, including legislators are often not aware that a problem exist. Often the people in charge have other items on their agenda. i ve said it before, we have $750 billion to bail financial institutions, but talk about public health care, and suddenly the cost is important.
